Who is it for​

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course is a two-day entry-level programme recognised by the UK MCA and most European administrations as a certificate of competency for operating small powerboats under 10m. 

The course covers boat handling and seamanship in powerboats, making it ideal for individuals seeking a qualification to operate yacht tenders or those wanting to learn to use a powerboat for leisure purposes.

Powerboat Level 2 Direct Assessment

This direct assessment is aimed at experienced boat handlers and tests the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat.

This assessment allows experienced powerboaters to gain their Powerboat Level 2 license, without the need to complete the entire Powerboat Level 2 Training course.

RYA Shore based Theory Courses

Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course

This two-day entry-level course provides a basic introduction to navigation and safety. 

This course is perfect for new or inexperienced skippers, crew and those wanting to refresh their skills. 

This course can be a good addition to the Powerboat Level 2 course, as well as being an excellent preparatory course if you are planning on doing your RYA Day Skipper or Yachtmaster theory courses or for those who just wish to remind themselves of the basics.

Day Skipper Theory Course

This five-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to navigation and theory , providing the knowledge of chart work navigation meteorology and  the basics of seamanship to the standard required to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day, and includes a basic overview of lights to introduce you to night cruising.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory Course

This advanced, six-day course builds on the knowledge gained on the Day Skipper Theory course. 

This intensive course is aimed at crew and sailors looking to undertake more complex passages perhaps offshore or at night and equips candidates to safely navigate coastal and offshore passages.

Marine Radio SRC Course and Exam

This 2-day course and exam is for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. 

A radio is an essential piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. 

The Short Range Certificate allow its holders legally operate VHF marine radios and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment 

This includes both Fixed and Handheld equipment, using International Channels.

First Aid Course

This one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating/yachting perspective. 

It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. 

This course is MCA approved and satisfies the requirements for Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat Certificates of Competence and some commercial work afloat.
